Anti-Covid-19 vaccination for children in Cuba begins in September.

Cuba: Cuban authorities assured that the vaccination process of the pediatric population against Covid-19 will begin in the Caribbean country in September of this year, Cubasí reports.

In fact, clinical trials have already begun in that segment, which spans the ages three to 18 years.

Soberana-Pediatría is the first study authorized in the Antillean nation for children between the ages of three and 18.

It has a sample of 350 infant and adolescent volunteers who will be administered a heterologous vaccination schedule of 0-28 and 56 days, with two doses of the Soberana 02 candidates and one of Soberana Plus, both developed by the Finlay Vaccine Institute and that has demonstrated 91.2 percent efficacy.

The sample is divided into two groups: the first made up of adolescents from 12 to 18 and the second of children from three to 11.

The objective of the trial is to evaluate the safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity of these candidates.

Meanwhile, a pediatric clinical trial with the Abdala anti-Covid-19 vaccine began today in the Cuban province of Camagüey, with nearly 600 children and adolescents from that territory participating in two phases.

The main researcher of the studies with this immunizer in the country, Dr. Sonia Resik, specified that in this trial named Ismaelillo the safety and immunogenicity of the product will be evaluated.

The results will be announced in October and will lay the foundations to later extend their application to the entire child population of the nation.
