Mayabeque, Cuba: Mayabeque reports 53 positive samples for the coronavirus, distributed in 9 of its 11 municipalities, all contacts of confirmed cases, according to the official website of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).
Three municipalities in the province coincide with the highest numbers of infected, each reporting a dozen patients yesterday, they are Bejucal, Madruga and San José de las Lajas. They are followed by Nueva Paz with 8 and Güines with 5.
For its part, San Nicolás registered 4 diagnosed with the virus, Jaruco 3, Melena del Sur 2 and Quivicán 1.
The day before, Mayabeque lamented the death of two people, due to Covid-19.
Associated with the prevalence of the omicron variant, the circulation of other respiratory viruses such as Influenza A, Endemic Coronavirus 229E, OC43 and others is also appreciated, which has brought with it an abrupt increase in people with respiratory infections.
Taking into account these reasons and the new moment of the epidemic that is being experienced throughout the national territory, the protocols are aimed at making a more rational use of diagnostic tests.
Consequently, the studies are essentially aimed at people who present symptoms of the disease or acute respiratory infection suggestive of COVID-19, following the medical criteria in the respiratory consultations of the Health institutions.
For the studies, priority will be given to children under two years of age, pregnant women and postpartum women, as well as patients from risk groups with comorbidities and others who, due to their vulnerability, are more likely to progress to severe forms of the disease.
The fact that we know more about the virus, and in some scenarios we have better tools to combat it than two years ago, cannot be a reason to trust us, quite the contrary.
The knowledge we have about COVID-19, and the damage it causes to health, only confirms the need to take care of all of us. Any of us can be infected and progress to serious stages of the disease.
