Mayabeque, Cuba: A little over a month after planting the first 60 square meters of potatoes at La Pastora Farm, the crops present a correct development and adaptability to natural conditions, producer Felicia Mesa Pérez commented.
?We are validating the use of the sargasso extract in the cultivation of potatoes in our soil, since it is an agro-ecological production potato. It is going to make three applications of bio-products in its vegetative development?, Mesa Pérez added.
According to specialists from the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, the tuber will be ready to be harvested after 70 days of being deposited in the ground.
At La Pastora Farm, they apply two potato planting modalities, both with proven efficacy. The traditional method consists of placing the bulb directly in the furrow, while with the other method, germination takes place from the bud
?In the garden of varieties, they placed 21 samples of the crop, with the aim of identifying the most resistant to pests, the ones with the highest yields and which ones managed to adjust to the soil and climate. The greenery and health of the field augurs a profitable harvest?, Mesa Pérez said.
