Tehran: Spokesman for Iran Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) Behrouz Kamalvandi confirmed on Monday that a sabotage caused the fire in July at Natanz nuclear plant.
“Investigations confirmed that the sabotage was derived from an external explosion”, said the spokesman, who avoided mentioning the alleged persons responsible for the incident.
On July 2, a fire broke out in one of the warehouses under construction at Natanz nuclear plant, where uranium is enriched, in the homonymous city, in central Esfahan province.
According to authorities, the enrichment of uranium was not affected and the nuclear power plant is still in service.
The source linked the Natanz fire to an Israeli sabotage and considered that such measures, included the murder of Iranian scientists, was better than alleged nuclear ambitions of the Islamic Republic.
‘Praising murder and encouraging sabotage are inhumane and barbarous acts that promote violence and terrorism. Such measures only increase the tension and could cause a great escalation, ‘Miryusefi warned on that occasion.
