Havana: On the occasion of the death of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, decreed an Official Mourning from 06:00 hours to 12:00 pm on this October 1st.
In a Presidential Decree, Díaz-Canel highlighted that the Kuwaiti dignitary showed respect and friendship towards the Cuban people and contributed to the promotion of links with important regional blocks, as well as to the strengthening of bilateral relations with Cuba.
‘Our people with deep regret have received the news of the death of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, who demonstrated respect and friendship towards our people’, highlights the document signed the day before by the head of state.
During the official mourning, the flag of the lone star will be raised at half-mast in public buildings and military institutions.
Shortly before the announcement of the duel, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, sent condolences to the government and people of Kuwait for the death of Al-Sabah in a message posted on his Twitter account.
The former president died at the age of 91 on Tuesday in the United States, where he had been treated since the end of July.
Kuwaiti media reported that the Arab country began a 40-day national mourning after the emir’s death.
In recent years, Al-Sabah was recognized as one of the leading diplomats in the region for his performance as a mediator in several disputes, including the diplomatic conflict between Qatar and several neighboring countries.
