Tropical Cyclone Advisory No. 4
Havana: During the night and early morning of today Tropical storm Gamma has gained more in organization and intensity, with maximum sustained winds that increased to 85 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts and a minimum central pressure that has decreased to 992 hectoPascal.
At six o’clock this morning its central region was estimated at 19.5 degrees North latitude and 87.0 degrees West longitude, a position that places it about 110 kilometers south of Cozumel, Mexico. It is moving near the northwest at a rate of 15 kilometers per hour.
In the next 12 to 24 hours this system will incline its trajectory to the north, decreasing its speed of translation and with the possibility of intensifying before making landfall in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Taking into account the position of this system, the predicted trajectory and the humidity that it generates in the area, the most significant for Cuba are the clouds with numerous showers, rains and electrical storms associated with its outer bands, which affect the western and central regions, being strong in some localities.
In the last hours, significant accumulations were registered in the meteorological stations of Nueva Gerona and La Fe, located on the Isla de la Juventud, with 83 and 71 millimeters respectively, of which more than 60 millimeters in less than six hours for both stations. These precipitations will persist during this weekend in the west and center part of the country, which can be strong and intense in some locations, mainly in the western region.
The next Tropical Cyclone Warning about this organism will be issued at six in the afternoon on Saturday.
