Beijing: Bicycle caravans today traveled the avenues of several Chinese cities to demand the immediate lifting of the economic, financial and commercial blockade that the United States has maintained against Cuba for almost six decades.

Just at 10:00 local time, members of the Cuban community residing in Beijing left from the central Jianguomenwai artery on a six-kilometer route that closed in Ditán Park and friends from the Asian giant and Venezuela.

Similarly and simultaneously, the Bicycle Ride Against the Blockade initiative reached the streets of Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Yongzhou and Quanzhou with cubans and representatives of other nations that are equally opposed to the hostile siege.

In all the tours, phrases such as Cuba yes, Bloqueo No, Cuba Viva and Down with the blockade, both in Spanish and Mandarin, resounded to demand the end of this policy, considered the main obstacle to the development of the island and its economic relations with the rest of the world.

In this regard, the Cuban ambassador here, Carlos Miguel Pereira, told Prensa Latina that it was a significant event, as he illustrated how to take advantage of attributes of such a different culture to raise his voice in the midst of an international outcry.

“Bridges of love came to China (…) this is a moment where we all think of our people and so many years of resistance to the criminal blockade, which must be eliminated,” said the diplomat, emphasizing the suffering of the Cuban family as a consequence of the United States sanctions system.

María Teresa Dos Santos, Minister Counselor of the Venezuelan embassy here, spoke in similar terms, who also stressed Caracas’s support for the island’s struggle and deplored the White House’s determination to opt for punitive measures to pressure and impose its hegemony.

While the Chinese citizen Han Xiaoxue, a friend of Cuba, described the North American blockade as illegal and expressed hope that this Sunday’s initiative will encourage more compatriots to know its impact on all areas of the socioeconomic life of the largest of the Antilles.

The Bicycle Ride against the Blockade is part of a movement organized this weekend in different parts of the world to demand that Washington cease a position, rejected consecutively since 1992 within the General Assembly of the United Nations.
