Havana: Cuba will participate in the Meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council that will begin today in a virtual way in the city of Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, in the Russian Federation, Prensa Latina publishes.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero will represent the Island on that appointment that will be take place until tomorrow, according to a note from the Caribbean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Council is the Board of the Eurasian Economic Union (UEE), composed of the heads of government of the Member States, which ensures the implementation and control of the Treaty of the Union.

Cuba participated for the first time in its observer status on February 5.

On that occasion, the head of Cuban government ratified the need to promote solidarity, multilateralism and cooperation as the most effective ways to face common challenges.

Likewise, it made available to the Member States the capacities of Cuba in the confrontation of COVID-19, particularly in relation to medical, biotechnological collaboration and the production of vaccines.

The UEE approved the observer status status for the greatest of the Antilles during a virtual summit in December 2020.

At that time, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed the political will to open greater opportunities for trade and investment with the Eurasian Economic Union.

In addition, the Caribbean president pointed out the satisfaction of the country by the new rank and ratified the commitment to strengthen links and cooperation with the Alliance.

The Russian Federation and the Republics of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan are part of the UEE, and the Republics of Moldova, Uzbekistan and Cuba are part of the UEE.
