Paris: The Europa for Cuba channel today launched an online petition to promote respect for the Island’s sovereignty and repudiate calls for a US military intervention disguised as humanitarian action, Prensa Latina publishes.
“We, Cubans and citizens of the world, ask Cuba and its sovereignty to be respected”, underlined the solidarity platform activated last October in the request posted on the change.org portal.
The channel created to support the largest of the Antilles against the aggressions, warned that the Caribbean country faces a powerful enemy that has imposed an economic, commercial and financial blockade on it for more than 60 years, and that it is the same aggressor power ( United States) to which some call for a ‘humanitarian intervention’.
Europe for Cuba denounced that the resurgence of this criminal policy of encirclement is the main responsible for the complex situation that the island is going through, where in recent days the infections and deaths from Covid-19 have increased.
The administration of Donald Trump dictated 243 measures to strengthen the blockade, 50 of these in the middle of the pandemic, without his successor in the White House, Joe Biden, lifting a single of the hostile actions, a scenario deliberately ignored by those who accuse the Cuban government of not doing what is necessary in the face of Covid-19.
The solidarity platform recalled that in Cuba it was its people who chose the prevailing social model, which has made it possible to develop a vaccine and several candidates against Covid-19 and maintain minimum lethality levels of the virus compared to other Latin American nations and the planet, including the richest.
It also stressed that the island has a majority support in the world in its fight against the US blockade.
“Those who advocate a military intervention using a humanitarian pretext go against the sovereign decision of the Cuban people to choose their own destiny and live in peace,” it stressed.
In this sense, Europe for Cuba affirmed that the only urgent intervention that the blockaded and attacked country needs is for the United States to put a definitive end to its blockade.
