Switzerland: The number of deaths and cases of COVID-19 increased worldwide, a discouraging situation that provokes a new round of restrictions and clouds hopes of a return to normalcy, Cubasí reports.
The World Health Organization reported that deaths from the new coronavirus increased last week after nine consecutive weeks of decline. It registered more than 55 thousand deaths, an increase of 3 percent compared to the previous week.
Total confirmed infections rose 10 percent to nearly 3 million, with the highest numbers in Brazil, India, Indonesia and the United Kingdom, the WHO noted.
The setback is attributed to low vaccination rates, the relaxation of rules for the use of masks and other preventive measures, and the rapid spread of the contagious delta variant, identified so far in 111 countries.
