Statement from the Oscar Arnulfo Romero Center on the events that occurred in Cuba
For more than 60 years, the United States (USA) has imposed its hegemonic and geopolitical policy on Cuba, trying to violate the sovereignty and independence of this nation, as well as establish its economic, political and social regime through the genocidal blockade imposed on our country , which results in considerable damage to all aspects of life, making access to resources and basic raw materials more expensive and difficult, essential for the Cuban state and the normal functioning of economic and social structures, which has been sharpened from the Trump administration and its policy of wear and tear.
The Cuban State has not stopped making great efforts, which is confirmed by the figures in different indicators related to Covid 19; for example, cases per million people: Cuba 21,320, America 72,235.13 and USA 104,381.25. The fatality in Cuba is 0.64, in America 2.64 and in the US 1.79. In addition, 5 national vaccine candidates have been developed, 1 of which is already a vaccine, the first made in Latin America, which speaks of a political will to face this pandemic and reduce the effects of a crisis that is not only in Cuba.
Given the increase in cases of patients with COVID19, in a context of suffocation given the intensification of the measures and sanctions imposed on Cuba, internal and external pressure and the international crisis given the pandemic, we have verified that certain groups, from the disinformation and / or bad faith, are requesting humanitarian intervention from Cuba, together with the promotion of unrest and social indiscipline, to justify intervention by international organizations. Experience has shown that these interventions do not solve the problems of the countries and only serve to increase inequalities and violence.
Our Center first condemns the inhuman and unethical US blockade of Cuba, as well as all kinds of demonstrations contrary to public order, peace and national security, more in this time of pandemic and deficiencies associated with it, than They only serve to delay the recovery and increase the cases of Covid 19, at the same time that they hinder the enormous efforts of the Cuban state to get out of this situation.
In the same way, we call for the unity of the nation under respect, love, sovereignty and peace at the same time as the peoples of the world not to be carried away by malicious or false news that only serves to misinform about the Cuban reality.
