President of Cuba evaluates high incidence of Covid-19 in pregnant women.

Havana, Cuba: The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today expressed his concern about the death this year of 35 pregnant women in the country due to Covid-19, Prensa Latina publishes.

Through his Twitter account, the president described as very regrettable this situation that occurs in the midst of a “strong regrowth and appearance of the delta variant”.

“The figure worries and occupies. With experts and scientists we analyze measures to protect them more”, he said.

The head of state recalled in his social network that in 2020 no pregnant woman on the island died from the pandemic.

‘Cuba has been able in an innovative and altruistic way from science to respond to the challenges of #COVID19, in the harsh conditions imposed by the #Blocking of the United States”, he wrote in another tweet.

In a meeting with the country’s top leadership, Noemí Causa, head of the Maternal and Child Care Program of the Ministry of Public Health, reported on the measures aimed at protecting pregnant women and postpartum women, as well as care for pregnant women at risk.

At the meeting, it was also reported that scientists continue to study the incidence of the Delta strain and the increase in patients and deaths from Covid-19.

According to health authorities, the Caribbean nation will maintain a high incidence of this disease in the coming weeks, above 7,500 cases, until reaching a more favorable situation in mid-September.
