Caracas: Caracas accused the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, of seeking to “plan” attacks against Venezuela and promote a “strategy of aggression” during his trip to Colombia, Radio Habana Cuba publishes.
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry denounced in a statement that Blinken’s recent visit to Colombia is part of “a sustained strategy of aggression” against the Venezuelan people.
“The use of their territory to attack Venezuela is disrespectful to our brother Colombian people, every time that country is going through one of the worst social upheavals in its history due to the misrule of Mr. Iván Duque, who opportunistically shields his failure behind the unconditional support it receives from the United States”, the statement stated.
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry highlighted the increase in cocaine production in Colombia, the country that the US considers its strategic ally in the fight against drug trafficking.
He stressed that Blinken must explain to the American people why they support a government that has allowed an increase in paramilitary and criminal activity.
The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said on the same Thursday that the meeting between Duque and Blinken was “very tense” and that the United States official went to “a country that is a world champion in the production and export of cocaine to the United States”.
The first Venezuelan president made reference to the massive violation of Human Rights in the latest demonstrations in Colombia.
The Venezuelan vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, denounced the same day that the secretary of state is in Colombia “planning aggressions against Venezuela, he will have to render accounts to the people of the United States for why he apologizes and promotes a government that massacres,” he added in statements made after a meeting with the Vice Prime Minister of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas.
Blinken has been in Colombia since Wednesday, and in this country he has held several meetings with senior government officials, including President Iván Duque. During this meeting, Duque declared that he is not willing to normalize ties with Venezuela.
