Mayabeque, Cuba: The Science, Technology and Environment Supervision and Control Unit (CITMA), in Mayabeque has among its priorities the safe handling of toxic substances that are a serious problem for humanity.

The CITMA environmental regulation specialist in the province, Bernardo Enrique González Duarte, reports that six entities are required to have a license to declare waste every three years.

Among the large generators are the Ernesto Guevara Thermoelectric Power Plant, the Western Oil Drilling and Extraction Company (EPEPO) and the Power Plant Maintenance Company.

“For the units that have not applied for the license, the term is being shortened, as they have to comply with the established legislation,” he said.
