Cuba implementa acciones para mitigar impacto de la sequía.

Cuba: Cuba implements actions to mitigate the effects of the drought when there are four months left to end the dry season and there is a deficit in the reservoirs, Prensa Latina reports.

The government indicated the activation of working groups to confront this phenomenon, among whose actions is the development of investments for a better use of water resources.

A floating pumping station in the municipality of Gibara, one among these projects, is located in the province of Holguín, in northeastern Cuba, which is the fourteenth of these sites installed in the country.

The territory of Holguin, together with those of Las Tunas and Guantánamo, also in the east and several municipalities in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Sancti Spíritus, is among the areas most affected by the impact of the drought.

In February, Cuban dams were reported at 55 percent of their filling capacity, with a deficit of around 800 million cubic meters of water compared to the average for this stage of the year.

Given the periodicity in the occurrence of these phenomena, the Cuban government implemented a coping and mitigation plan against drought with measures in the short, medium and long term, which include investments, maintenance actions, as well as the dissemination of information on the subject. .
