Havana, Cuba: One year after the approval of Decree-Law No. 31 on animal welfare, it is significant to review fundamental aspects of its content, which regulate principles, duties, rules and purposes regarding the care, health and use of animals to ensure their welfare.

The website of the Ministry of Agriculture highlights that, in accordance with the legislation, to direct and coordinate the control of zoonotic diseases and guarantee compliance with the provisions, the Ministry of Public Health has surveillance, prevention and control programs focused on those conditions that constitute a risk to human health.

In this sense, actions are carried out to monitor the occurrence of cases, microbiological diagnoses, control of outbreaks, medical care for people, vaccination of risk groups and populations of reservoir animals, as well as a system of health education and health promotion.
