This March 19, the Cuban Radio is celebrating, because it being held the “Day of the Listener”, which in its broad sense defines the millions of human beings who daily tune in to their favorite programs, Radio Bayamo publishes.
It is a special day to entertain so many people, of all ages and occupations, who are the meaning of our media par excellence. We have a radio where the medium-listener relationship is not summed up in the simplistic formula of subject-object. The interactive and participatory nature of this medium in Cuba changed the archaic paradigm that existed between those who “build the radio product” and those who “consume it”.
Ours is a unique phenomenon in a radio where its listeners produce the raw material with which we all build this product; they are inspiring of their contents; decision makers in the last instance of the permanence or not of spaces; in short, they refine existing ones and become architects of new ideas.
The Cuban Radio has a “Listener’s Day” to recognize the active presence of those who, with their receiving teams, exercise a critical and analytical ear. In this way, the newsrooms of programming in national, provincial and municipal stations are enriched.
It is from the point of view of the listeners, that work is done on the search and production of content and on the form -artistic and even pedagogical- as they will be elaborated. The Cuban radio audience has a high critical sense given the culture reached in all these years of recent history. Know when a program has quality and if it lacks it.
Having this valuable “army” is the greatest wealth and at the same time it is a challenge, a noble challenge to have a radio that is better every day, at the level of those who listen to it and demand its continued improvement.
The means by which work is done change; listeners change according to the time, their needs and interests as an audience that participates, gives their opinion and contributes to a better radio. Everything changes; Not so the professionalism of those who create it and deliver it as a merit to those who rightfully demand it. It is due to them and to them. It is the radio and the responsible love towards a task that is and will always be, from its listeners, the main tool to continue building all´s homeland.
