Mayabeque, Cuba: The streets of Güines show a different environment. Today there are fewer dogs and cats that roam these arteries that in a long time witnessed abuse, offenses, contempt and neglect until death.
Thanks to the work of the Alma project, made up of young lovers of canines, felines and other species, the responsible adoption of companion pets constitutes an alternative to improve the quality of life of these animals.
One of its members, Claudia Hernández Frómeta, said that they have sterilized many dogs that were in the area of the central park of the municipality, carry out deworming campaigns and on days of strong winter they were offered donated blankets and food.
As of today, more than 10 animals will have a safe home after being adopted at a fair held in central areas of Güines.
They require basic care such as medical attention and veterinary visits, adequate food, training, games and caresses in a protective breast.
Alma is a project of young people looking for a safe haven for street animals.
