Mayabeque, Cuba: The potato harvest at the Aranguito 5 farm, in the municipality of Melena del Sur, stands out for its yields at the service of local food and the country’s economy.
As the farmer Rafael García Bacallao explained, today they are immersed in the harvest of the tuber in 36 hectares of 22 that are established.
Another of the producers, José Ariel Luzardo García, reveals that the results are due to compliance with crop care, be it fumigation and cleaning of the areas.
The current campaign exhibits lower yields compared to the previous ones, due to the lack of resources in the fields of agricultural machinery and pesticides.
The director of the Agricultural Company of Melena del Sur, engineer Erick León Basaco, said that in other units destined to the Attention to Producers they exceed 25 tons per hectare in the national potato and have good seed.
