The Maldives appreciates work of the Cuban medical brigade

Male: The Minister of Health of the Maldives, Dr. Admed Naseem, thanked the work of the Cuban doctors and expressed the intention of increasing their number in the hospitals of that nation in the Indian Ocean, a diplomatic source reported today.

Naseem held a meeting on February 13 with the Cuban ambassador Andrés González at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health in Male, to discuss issues related to the work of the Cuban medical brigade in the island country.

The Cuban envoy thanked the support provided by the Health authorities to the island’s doctors, who cover the specialties of surgery, anesthesia, radiology, hematology, psychiatry, clinical and comprehensive general medicine.

During the meeting, the Cuban Health collaborators who work in the capital Male participated and those who are in different atolls and islands of the Maldives did so by videoconference.

At the meeting, the diplomat highlighted the heroic struggle of the Cuban people to overcome the difficulties and limitations mainly due to the strong economic and financial blockade imposed by the United States government for more than 60 years, further exacerbated by 243 measures implemented by the Trump administration and in force in the Biden government.

Also, the diplomat conveyed recognition to all the doctors and health specialists on behalf of the Government and the people of Cuba for the beautiful work they do.

The head of the Cuban medical brigade, Dr. Daniel Posada, ratified the commitment of all the members of the group to help the people of the Maldives to achieve the desired health standards.

Cuba’s 13-member medical brigade arrived in the Maldives last June and provides services in six of the 26 atolls that make up the 1,200 inhabited Maldives islands with a population of 579,330 inhabitants and to date has treated more than 17,000 300 patients, saved 65 lives and performed 66 surgeries, 625 ultrasounds and 94 anesthesia.
