Havana, Cuba: The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, will participate today in the XXVII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, which will be held in Andorra virtually, Prensa Latina publishes.
The Ministers of Foreign Relations, Bruno Rodríguez; of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, and of Science, Technology and Environment, Elba Pérez, will also be at the meeting, which will discuss innovation for sustainable development and the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a prelude to the Summit, on April 13, the meeting of National Coordinators and those responsible for cooperation was held; and two days later the II Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ibero-America took place.
In the latter, the Cuban Foreign Minister congratulated the Principality of Andorra for the initiatives deployed since 2019, as part of his work in the Pro-Tempore Secretariat of the Conference.
He also reaffirmed Cuba’s support for the Dominican Republic, a country that will hold responsibility for the next two-year period.
In his speech, the head of Cuban diplomacy stressed that the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States is the greatest impediment to the development of the Antillean island.
Likewise, he highlighted the role of Ibero-American cooperation in promoting science and innovation, which is beneficial to integrated nations.
The Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government is the most important event held by the Ibero-American Conference, a cooperation mechanism that brings together the 22 Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries of Latin America and Europe.
The high-level meeting should have been held last 2020, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic it was postponed for the current calendar.
