Havana, Cuba: Italian MEP Massimiliano Smeriglio highlighted the participation of young people in the International Book Fair in Havana during a meeting with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, it was reported on Tuesday, Prensa Latina reports.
Smeriglio pointed out that in his country, they are not used to seeing many young people with books in their hands; “it is a strong impression, a unique and incredible experience,” he said.
“A book is an elite object for us in Europe. Seeing many people with books, especially young people, opens our hearts,” he added.
The MEP, who launched his book “Se bruciasse la città” (The city is burning) at the fair, pointed out the tour of the literary event through several provinces of the country while describing it as something exceptional.
According to Cubadebate´s website, the president underscored, during the meeting, the role and vision of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in the country’s literary production.
During the meeting, the parties also analyzed the importance of promoting education based on the use of books and reading to become a reference for young people´s studies.
