Cuba today celebrates the Day of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), and the 64th anniversary of the landing of the Granma yacht that began the guerrilla struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista, Radio Rebelde publishes.
On December 2, 1956, 82 expedition members led by Fidel Castro made landfall in eastern Cuba after setting sail on November 25 from the Mexican port of Tuxpan.
It took almost four hours for the expedition members to cross the 1,500 meters that separated them from the mainland, in a slow and painful march, where footwear, clothing and valuable war material were lost, but never faith in the oath made by Fidel upon departure. from Mexico: ?If I leave, I arrive; if I arrive, I enter; If I go in, I win?.
With that conviction they had anchored in homeland; That would be the guide for each future combat in the Sierra Maestra, until the definitive triumph, and it is today, 64 December later, the same one that stands Cuba in front of the crude assemblages that try in vain to break it apart.
With Granma they landed not only the utopia of the possible and of the Homeland that José Martí dreamed of, but also the ideals of sovereignty of a people, which does not allow its history to be outraged, much less is it confused.
In honor of that epic, the Revolutionary Armed Forces were founded in 1961.
