Eighth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) will be held next April.

Havana, Cuba: Delegates to the Eighth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) hold from today until March 20 sessions to analyze the documents scheduled for the appointment, to be held next April.

According to the Granma newspaper, it is a process of exchange and clarification in all the provinces of the country, and a step for the evaluation of the guiding texts in the work commissions of the event.

The media recalled that for almost a year a representation of the PCC, the Government and the Permanent Commission for the Implementation and Development of the Guidelines of the Party and the Revolution, mass organizations, academics and researchers sought to prepare the documents.

These include a review of the economy during the 2016-2020 cycle, the comprehensive evaluation of the development model, an update of that strategy and checking the national progress plan with a view to 2030.

In addition to the study of the economic and social results of the preceding five-year period, the appointment scheduled between April 16 and 19 will delve into the work projections.

According to Granma, those years were marked by difficulties of several kinds, aggravated by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Caribbean nation, as well as structural problems and internal deficiencies.

From 2016 to 2019, the Cuban economy experienced a modest growth of the Gross Domestic Product, at a rate of one percent as an annual average; and, for 2020, a contraction of around 11 percent is estimated, due to the impact of the siege of the United States and the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this context, Congress seeks to guarantee the continuity and irreversibility of socialism and to advance in the improvement of the quality of life of the population, in close connection with the formation of ethical and political values ??in citizens, Granma stressed.
