The modest town of Guáimaro was definitely inscribed in the History of Cuba, on April 10, 1869, when it became the seat of the first Constituent Assembly of the Republic in Arms.

There the first constitution of Cuba was embodied in which the current national flag was approved and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes was elected as the first president of the Republic.

The town with notable historical references would since then become the fundamental legal root of a country that approved by a large majority on February 24, 2019 with 86.85 of the votes the most recent project of a new Magna Carta, which shows the will to sovereignty of millions of Cubans.

This document is the political law considered by Cuban specialists in constitutional law as the first most notable and important legal statute in republican history, through which the country was organized as an independent political state.

It was drawn up on this date in the National Assembly of Cuba, which was held in this town from which it took its name, with the participation of delegates from the regions in which the Island had been divided by the Cuban patriots of the Republic in Arms: General Captaincy of the East, General Assembly of the Center (Camagüey) and the Revolutionary Board of the Villas.

It was conceived to rule while the War of Independence was maintained, later it was modified seven times until 1876, with the purpose of including aspects that were defined.

It was in the Assembly of Guáimaro, on April 14, a space where history would continue to be made, there the famous patriot Ana Betancourt, almost a century ahead of her time, proclaimed the equality of women.

Guáimaro is a consequence of the need to achieve a new, superior, advanced homeland, it is about the majority thinking about socialism and envisioning a better future, as José Martí dreamed it and Fidel materialized, and that is why we have to look there.

On the occasion of the 152 anniversary of the first Constituent Assembly in Cuba and when we have an updated Cuban Constitution, with a political genesis in that fact, we commemorate such an important event, which has allowed us to accurately direct the designs of our history in the midst of the complex moments that we live.
