Havana, Cuba: The 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) is developing the penultimate working day today, in which its delegates will vote for the members of the Central Committee, with a mandate for the next five years, Prensa Latina publishes.

The Central Committee is the highest body of the PCC between each congress.

Decide on the number of members of the Political Bureau, which elects and selects the first and second secretaries.

It is in charge of the application of resolutions, policies and programs approved by the congress that elected him.

The delegates to the 8th conclave will study the candidacy project before voting at the end of today’s session.

300 militants will participate in the vote on behalf of the more than 700 thousand that integrate the ranks of the PCC.

The number of delegates to the forum is in correspondence with the epidemiological situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in the Caribbean nation.

Previously, the congress will discuss and approve various resolutions, including on the Central Report presented by the first secretary, Army General Raúl Castro.

The same will happen with draft resolutions emanating from the three commissions that worked in the last two days and that dealt with economic issues, on cadre politics and regarding the functioning of the Party and ideological work.

The resolutions approved by the conclave will include matters such as updating the economic and social model of Cuban socialist development; as well as the Guidelines of the PCC and the Revolution, by which Cuba will be led in the coming years.

The congress ends on April 19, the date on which Cuba commemorates the 60th anniversary of the defeat in Playa Girón of the mercenary invasion armed and financed by the United States.

On that day, the first plenary session of the new Central Committee will take place, whose members will elect the top leadership of the PCC for the period 2021-2026.
