Havana, Cuba: Cuba trusts that economic, commercial and scientific-technical collaboration ties with the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (UEE) will be strengthened, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero said today.

In his virtual message at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, Marrero stressed that there is great potential to expand cooperation with projects of interest included in the normative documents of the bilateral relationship.

“It is up to us to actively interact to carry out the fulfillment of all those tasks that respond to the interests of our countries?, the head of the Cuban Government stressed at the event that is based in the Russian city of Kazan.

He expressed the interest of the Antillean nation in increasing exports of national goods and services to the UEE market and in achieving the participation of the business community of the regional bloc in foreign investment projects on the island.

Marrero pointed out that the country works to strengthen relations with the tourism sector of the Member States of the Union, based on the experience developed with Russia, especially through corporate and health tourism.

He stressed that the Cuban authorities are willing to negotiate the expansion of air traffic from the UEE countries, incorporating other cities of departure or destination to the already traditional routes.

He said that the increase in air operators and the frequency of flights can also be managed, with the assurance that Cuba constitutes a safe and attractive corridor for the citizens of their countries, Marrero assured the participants in the event.

The prime minister signified the willingness of the Caribbean island to promote the links of the Eurasian bloc with the markets of the Latin American and Caribbean region.

In this regard, he noted that Havana participates in a multidimensional way in the Association of Caribbean States and in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

The leader stressed that Cuba’s economic complementation agreements, as part of the Latin American Integration Association, could be an opportunity to introduce UEE products in those countries under preferential and advantageous conditions.

Heads of Government and senior representatives of the UEE member countries participate in the meeting: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, as well as Moldova, Uzbekistan and Cuba, the last three with observer status.

On the Cuban side, the ambassador to the Russian Federation, Julio Garmendía, who is appointed by his Government as permanent representative to the Eurasian Economic Commission, attends in person.
