Mayabeque, Cuba: The food sovereignty project takes place at the El Violento farm, located in the Zaragoza Popular Council, belonging to San José de las Lajas.
In these lands, the production of seeds is put into practice with the support of different scientific centers of Mayabeque, which is aimed at import substitution.
According to the coordinator of the program in the Provincial Administration Council, Dachel García Martínez, they planted four hectares of beans of four different varieties to achieve a high quality seed.
The annual plan should be around 200 ha and it was possible to supply 50 percent of the demand in coordination with the scientific centers.
The prospects for the next campaign are favorable; it is intended to guarantee 100 percent of the territory.
