Cuba: The House of the Americas, the Union of Journalists of Cuba, the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba, the Network in Defense of Humanity, the Martin Luther King Jr., Latin American Summary and the National Union of Jurists of Cuba, summon the second meeting of the cycle Cuba at the Current Times, a space for reflection and dialogue on the challenges faced by the Cuban Revolution in the circumstances of the present.
We have appropriated an expression of the unforgettable Cintio Vitier on the eve of the centenary of his birth to name this virtual event: ?Martí in the present time of Cuba?, the title of that memorable essay that he published in 1994, at another very difficult moment for the homeland.
The intensification of the blockade, the confrontation with the pandemic, the measures taken in the field of the economy, the subversive plans, the riots of July 11 and 12, the campaigns against Cuba in the media and social networks, the role of Cuban civil society, culture and communication, the community work in vulnerable neighborhoods and the social inclusion policies are among the topics addressed in this cycle.
The cycle has speakers from Cuba and from other countries in our region and the world and its second session, entitled “Challenges and urgencies of Cuba in the face of the blockade, the pandemic and the serious economic situation”, will take place on Tuesday, August 24, between 2:00 pm and 4:30 pm, Cuban time. It will be held virtually through the Jitsi Meet platform and with English translation. The meeting can be followed by the Facebook channels of the sponsoring institutions and other organizations and movements in solidarity with our country.
