Mayabeque Advances towards Digital Terrestrial Television.

Mayabeque, Cuba: The first stage of the partial evolution to terrestrial digital television will begin in Mayabeque in the period from November 30 to December 15 of this year, as anticipated by government authorities.

The Educativo and Educativo II channels will gradually stop broadcasting the signal through the analogue platform, once the transition to digital television is completed in all the western provinces of Cuba.

This process is part of the program designed in the country to introduce new digital technology in the television broadcasts of all channels. It will be carried out by geographical areas in stages and will run until 2024.

It will begin in 2021 in the west, by the end of next year it will be executed in the central provinces and in 2023 in the eastern region of the archipelago.

Finally, an analysis will be carried out to determine the reception of the signal and the so-called “analog blackout” will occur.

The sales of the so-called “boxes” have been intended for which the commercialization of approximately 300 thousand decoder boxes is expected.

For those who have not yet been able to access the new technology, the programming of the analogue channels that will continue on the air has been redesigned: Tele Rebelde, Cubavisión and Multivisión.

Technological obsolescence and high energy consumption, as well as the need to release the 700 MHz band for the deployment of the Fourth Generation (4G) are the reasons why it is essential to carry out this process of change to the digital signal.
