Havana, Cuba: As part of the activities prior to the Seventh Ordinary Period of Sessions, of the IX Legislature, of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP by its Spanish initials), scheduled to take place between October 27 and 28, the deputies will study this Monday the four draft laws, presented by the Governing Council of the Supreme People’s Court, in use of the exercise of the legislative initiative and in compliance with the Tenth Transitory Provision of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba.

According to Cubadebate, the parliamentarians will analyze the draft laws of the Courts of Justice, the Administrative Process, the Code of Procedures and the Criminal Process, which the Secretary of the Cuban legislature, Homero Acosta Álvarez, recently described as very relevant because they represent a ?profound procedural reform?.

These normative provisions, which will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration, have been discussed in recent months by deputies, jurists, institutions, organizations and universities, and enriched with their criteria and with the opinions of the population.

In order to promote citizen participation in this process, the full texts of the four draft laws were published on the website of the ANPP and the People’s Supreme Court, and e-mails and a telephone line were set up for the population to transfer their opinions.

Other characteristics of the Seventh Ordinary Period of Sessions

In the Palace of Conventions, in the Cuban capital, the deputies of Havana, the parliamentarians elected by other municipalities of the country who reside in this city, in addition to the members of the Council of State, will be physically present. In the provincial headquarters the rest of the legislators will be participating by videoconference. In this way, the activities will take place in a blended way.

The supreme body of State power will meet in compliance with the hygienic-sanitary measures taken by the country in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this sense, a group of actions have been adopted, in accordance with a medical and epidemiological insurance plan, which includes compliance with sanitary regulations in the places where the deputies stay, the means of transport, the cleaning of the premises, the physical distancing of the parliamentarians and the rest of the support staff who attend the sessions, as well as the performance of the PCR examinations of the participants.

In the Seventh Ordinary Period of Sessions of the Cuban Parliament, the progress of the economy in the first semester of 2021 will also be analyzed, the report on the liquidation of the State budget for 2020, the results achieved by the Ordering Task, the update of the contributions of science in the confrontation with COVID-19, in addition to the discussion of the four bills.

Likewise, the deputies will examine the results of the High Audit to the Ministry of Construction, the documents approved in the 8th. Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba – Report on the update of the Implementation of the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution, and the presentation of the Update of the Conceptualization of the Cuban Economic and Social Model of Socialist Development, as well such as the agreements and decree-laws issued by the Council of State.
