Mayabeque, Cuba: The Local Agricultural Innovation Project (PIAL) takes certain steps in Batabanó with the purpose of intensifying the development and search for sustainable alternatives to increase food production.

There are several achievements in recent times for the peasant to diversify his farm with varieties of crops, species of plants and animals.

Proof of this is the result of the Valdez farm, belonging to the Rubén Marichal Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS), located in the Camacho settlement, in Batabanó.

With the employment and dedication of the whole family, they have varieties of fruit trees, vegetables, medicinal plants and farmyard animals such as pigs and chickens.

A diversified farm to guarantee the economy and profitability of the family. A paradise where the use of natural fertilizers and biological means is evident and necessary to undertake in the world of agrotourism.

The tree yam, melon, pineapple, mango, avocado, citrus and Chinese mamoncillo can be found throughout its extension. One of the achievements of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) in agroecology, supported by specialists from the PIAL project, who continue to search for sustainable alternatives to increase food production.

The Valdés farm is an example to follow when we refer to agroecology in Batabanó.
