Fire reported in thermoelectric plant in western Cuba.

Havana, Cuba: The Máximo Gómez thermoelectric power plant in the municipality of El Mariel, locatedin the province of Artemisa, in western Cuba, suffered a fire on Monday, with no human losses reported, authorities informed.

The incident occurred when on Monday night a steam turbine of unit seven of the plant caught fire causing an automatic trip of the system.

A note from the Ministry of Energy and Mines specifies that there were no deaths or injuries and no damage to the electrical service.

At the close of the information, the forces of the fire department of the province of Artemisa finished putting out the fire and the conditions were created to evaluate the damage in that unit and the other segments of the thermoelectric plant.

Inaugurated in 1963 with Soviet technology, the thermoelectric plant has undergone several modernization processes to increase its capacities and automate processes, which makes it one of the main sources of energy in the country.
