My Roots Event: Tribute to the Queen of the Country Music.

Mayabeque, Cuba: The Mis Raíces event meets today in the municipality of Güines to pay tribute to the Queen of Country Music, Celina González, on the 94th anniversary of her birth.

María Victoria Rodríguez, promoter of the initiative, explained that the space has the support of the Ministry of Culture and its dependencies in the host territory, as well as the Cuban Institute of Music, and other government entities.

It will be an intense day of work, exhibitions, colloquiums, workshops and exchanges with renowned figures who cultivate the traditional sounds of Cuba.

The tribute to the author of the iconic song I am the Punto Cubano, will open its curtains with an official ceremony in the Santa Bárbara Chapel, while it will continue with the screening of the film Vida y Obra de Celina González and the theoretical space dedicated to discussing career and efforts to rescue country music.

A gala with performances by new artists, the presentation of the singer’s record catalogue, by the Recording and Musical Editions Company, Egrem, and an open-air concert is also on the agenda.

Dead on February 4, 2015, the National Music Award (2002) is a symbol of the culture of the Cuban countryside and religious traditions, as she bequeathed a wide repertoire of the genre of guajira music, sones montunos, tunes, creoles and guarachas.
