Mayabeque, Cuba: Los Terruños is the name of the initiative of the José María Heredia House of Culture, in the town of Aguacate in Madruga, aimed at strengthening the identity of the municipality, based on the diversity of existing traditions and customs.

The director of the aforementioned institution, Ronald Rodríguez Pérez, leader of the community project, said that the objective is through art and literature to disregard the geographical borders of the four Popular Councils and to ponder Madruga?s culture as a whole with its peculiarities.

Art instructors and members of the amateur movement of the José María Heredia House of Culture are part of Los Terruños and carry out activities with shows, where dance, theater, music, painting and crafts come together.

They are artistic proposals that take into account the rumba, the Punto Cubano, the danzón, poetry, the Afro-Cuban religion and other popular traditions.

With the prospect of becoming a local development project this year, this initiative has an educational component, as it promotes workshops and meetings between artists, promoters and community leaders with the purpose of exchanging knowledge, highlighting traditions and pondering the Cuban identity as the main element of identity.
