Mayabeque, Cuba: The sugar harvest in Madruga is close to 60 percent of the cane crushed committed for this year and in that proportion is also the progress of the agreed sugar plan in the midst of a very complex scenario.

Hence, in the agriculture industry, a daily battle is waged so that the Boris Luis Santa Coloma Agroindustrial Sugar Company of the territory can fulfill the productive commitment of the contest.

Difficulties in harvesting and transportation respond to objective causes and are a brake on the production of more sugar per day. The explanation is offered by the head of the cane production group of the aforementioned company, an agronomist Osmani Esteban Cuello Marrero.

?We are doing a harvest with an agricultural yield of cane that is approximately half of what we have done in other years. Having low yield in the raw material means that the cutting media also affects their productivity?.

“In recent campaigns, the amount of herbicides has been limited, especially hormonal products, and herbs and vines are also a brake on the productivity of the machines and the macheteros in the harvest,” Cuello Marrero said.

In addition, the lack of material resources to carry out the harvest is a constant from the repair process that cannot be ignored.

In the mill, the availability of spare parts is almost nil and the workers have to resort to manufacturing and recovery with their own resources, creativity and care and control.
