Santo Domingo: The Dominican Republic established new regulations for Cuban travelers in transit or transfer in this country towards other destinations, media reported in this capital Thursday.
According to Resolution 06-2022 of the General Directorate of Migration, signed by its director, Enrique Garcia, to which Prensa Latina had access, Cuban citizens in transit or transfer in this country must be residents or citizens of the destination one.
Or, instead, they must have a visa from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, European Union countries, member States of the Shengen space and the Dominican Republic.
Moreover, the Regulation 07-2022, which allows entrance as tourists to Cuban residents in the US with expired passports (not over 18 months), was made public.
The first resolution is similar to those enforced by other nations of the region, which Cuba condemned.
On Wednesday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced US pressures on several governments to impose visas on Cubans ?as a cynical effort to close the doors to the kind of emigration it has boosted for decades.?
The US government does not comply with its legal obligation to grant no less than 20,000 annual visas to Cubans, under bilateral agreements, and imposes the burden of the brutal economic blockade and pressures other governments to demand a transit visa from Cuban migrants and travelers, Rodriguez tweeted.
The date for the enforcement of these new regulations has not been determined yet.
