San Remo Music Awards is today a fact in Cuba.

Havana, Cuba: The San Remo Music Awards (SRMA) is today a fact in Cuba after its official inauguration in this capital that, for the first time, welcomed important exponents of music in Spain and the island, Prensa Latina publishes.

From the gardens of the Hotel Nacional, the director of operations of the SRMA, Flavio Ferroni, praised the organizational level of the event held on the island and thanked the system of institutions in the country, including the Recording and Musical Editions Company, the Ministry of Culture and the Cuban Institute of Music.

The event distinguished the premiere of the documentary dedicated to the Moncada Group and its performance at the Di San Remo Festival, while awarding its recognition to Jorge Gómez, founder of the group and current president of the Cubadisco Festival, the country?s largest recording event.

Gómez pointed out that SRMA stands as a mark and continuity of the musically historical link between Cuba and Italy, which had its genesis in the three participatory editions of the Caribbean nation in the Italian Song Festival.

For his part, the director of the Egrem, Mario Escalona, ??reminded all the contestants and those who have allowed us to walk this path, there were no obstacles for this type of event, which brings recognized voices from the European country.

In the words of Tatiana Viera, coordinator of objectives and programs of the government of Havana, the SRMA constitutes ?a special opportunity to make visible the musical values ??of that capital and accompany its entry into the UNESCO Creative Cities network.?

As special guests, the String Quartet of the National Symphony Orchestra performed at the opening night; Gastón Joya and his jazz group and the pianist Alejandro Falcón accompanied by the Spanish singer, Pilar Boyero, worthy heiress of the copla as a genre, while the Septeto Habanero sealed the gala with its demonstration of the unique Cuban son.

SRMA will host 16 new performers, who will defend, before a respectable jury, the repertoire of outstanding composers of contemporary Cuban music during the island?s interpretation contest held in the Avellaneda hall of the National Theater.

Until April 10, the event promotes sociocultural exchange and strengthens the friendship between Cuba and Italy, as it becomes a showcase for expressions such as fashion, cuisine and music from the European country.
