Mayabeque, Cuba: The first workshop to present the Mi Costa project took place in Batabanó, one of the 24 municipalities in the country benefited from the new investments to minimize the impact of climate change, aimed at the settlements on the southern coast of Cuba.

With the presence of environmental specialists, national and provincial coordinators, they addressed issues related to the main actions to be implemented, such as hydrology, soil desalination, mangroves, forest areas, native species of plants and animals, as well as the importance of work related to the human component.

One of the strategic lines of Mi Costa is the training and awareness of the communities to preserve the environmental and social achievements that the project defends.

Due to its great social impact, the project will inaugurate three capacity building centers in the municipalities of Güines, Melena del Sur and Batabanó, in addition to the annexed classroom in the protected area of ??the gulf.

This first meeting served to draw the lines of action with all the local sectors involved, among which Flora and Fauna, Fishing Company, Hydrology, Forestry, Public Health, Ranger Corps, CITMA and culture stand out.

The Mi Costa Project, according to information released by the UNDP, contributes to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Comprehensive Hydraulic Development Plan until 2030 of the island, in addition to revealing that the ecosystem approach is key in Cuban environmental policy.
