Cuba: The head of the delegation of the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba (AGR), Nelson Cordovés, participated today in the debates of the Council of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Prensa Latina reports.

In the morning session, Cordovés exchanged with the Secretary General of the OMA, Kunio Mikuriya, about the training needs and the digitalization and automation process that is being developed in the AGR.

The Caribbean island official also reiterated Cuba’s difficulties in participating in the events and online training courses organized by the WCO, due to the impossibility of accessing various virtual platforms, as a result of the blockade imposed by the United States.

Since the beginning of the Council, on the 23rd, its members have discussed the result of the Covid-19 Action Plan, the update of the WCO work program on the Harmonized System and the organization’s policies and governance.

Other topics addressed are “Green” Customs and the weaknesses that may exist in the border control process.

A moment of special interest was the meeting with heads of delegations and the Reception for the 70th Anniversary of the World Customs Organization. (YDG)
