Cuba Reports 59 New Samples Positive for Covid-19

Havana: At midnight this Friday, Cuba reported 59 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 3,925 since March; two deaths and 51 medical discharges, Dr. Francisco Durán García, national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), reported this Saturday at a press conference.

Durán specified that 1,057 people remain in clinical-epidemiological surveillance: 33 in surveillance, 468 suspects and 556 confirmed. Of those 556 confirmed admitted, 534 maintain a stable clinical course, Cubadebate publishes.

During this Friday, 5,698 samples were studied in all the molecular biology laboratories of the country, from all provinces, for an accumulated of 388 194 tests carried out since the beginning of the pandemic.
All the cases confirmed yesterday correspond to Cubans, and 43 are contacts of previously confirmed cases (since March, 90.3% of all those diagnosed). In six (10.1%) of those diagnosed, the source of infection could not be confirmed and in the last 15 days, 23 with this condition accumulated.

Of the 59 confirmed cases, 10 (16.9%) are imported, bringing the number of cases with a source of infection abroad since March to 362.

Of the total number of cases, 36 correspond to the male sex and 23 to the female sex, while 41 (69.4%) were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis. 58.1% (1,281) of the cases confirmed since March have been asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis, Durán García said.

By age group, yesterday five patients under 20 years of age were diagnosed; 28 corresponded to the group from 20 to 39 years old; 19 to 40 to 59 years and seven people in the range of 60 and over.

By reporting two deaths this Friday, Cuba accumulates a total of 94 deaths from COVID-19 since March, for a fatality of 2.39%, below that of the Americas (3.52%).

With the 51 medical discharges this Friday, 3,273 patients have been recovered since March (83.4%).

Five patients are reported as critical and 17 as serious, all from Havana.

Until August 28, 185 countries with COVID-19 cases are reported, the confirmed cases amount to 24,473,843 (+ 269,157) and 832,002 deaths (+ 5,912) for a fatality of 3.39 (-0.02 ).

In the region of the Americas, 13 036 986 confirmed cases are reported (+ 126 439), 53.26 of the total cases reported in the world, with 459 113 deaths (+ 3 547) for a fatality of 3.52.
