Mayabeque, Cuba: The Minister of Education Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, appeared this Friday at the Round Table Program to specify details about the restart of the school year in general education in the country and the necessary adjustments in the current epidemiological situation.
The highest representative of education in Cuba referred to the tour they made throughout the country to more than 1,500 student centers to see the organization of schools based on the distance between students, hygienic sanitary measures, teaching coverage and the preparation of managers and teachers.
The atmosphere is favorable, she said, and thanked the support of government authorities and institutions.
At another time she referred to the 284 damages caused by tropical storm Laura with Havana, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo with the greatest problems in light roofs and trees that fell on the perimeter fences.
About the opening of the school year on September 1, she specified that there will be centers and municipalities that will remain closed, because sanitary conditions do not allow it. Specifically in Havana, measures are adopted that also allow the resumption of the instructive stage through the video class system.
The conditions are not the same, in the classrooms the situation will not be the same, some will change space. These are aspects that can affect students from the moment they return to school.
How does the current situation affect the behavior of children who remain at home for a long time and are preparing for the restart of the school year? This question was answered by the Specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Dr. Tania Adriana Peón Valdés.
The matter must be seen from two fundamental issues, said Peón Valdés: ?what has happened to our children and adolescents in their mental health as a result of confinement and isolation, and what has also happened if they are children who became ill from the Covid 19.
In both scenarios we have been working with the Ministry of Education and all the results culminate in the diagnosis and orientation centers with joint decisions in favor of infants, she assured.
