Havana, Cuba: The European Union, the United Nations Development Program -UNDP- and the Environment Agency allocated a budget to purchase protection means for a group of Cuban peasants before COVID-19, Radio Reloj publishes.
According to a note provided by that program, the initiative is developed within the framework of the Environmental Bases for Local Food Sustainability project -BASAL-, whose mission is to contribute to the socio-economic and environmental development of Cuba.
The donation of means of protection and disinfection for the beneficiaries of this project is carried out in support of the national strategy for confronting and recovering from the pandemic.
BASAL is led by the Citma Environment Agency through the Tropical Geography Institute with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture; it has been implemented since 2012 by UNDP.
