Cuba: More than 25 million pesos in investments was executed by the Higher Organization for Business Management (OSDE), Water and Sanitation to alleviate the drought deficit in its facilities during the first 5 months of the year.
The main actions were concentrated in the construction and assembly of 42.2 kilometers of networks and conductors in 7 provinces, including 2 desalination plants in Havana (Puntilla and Cojímar), specialists from the group reported to the Cuban News Agency in a summary of the results of his administration from January to last May.
In addition, the drilling of seven new wells in Havana and Mayabeque, and the practice of lowering columns in the wells to reach the water deeper in Pinar del Río (La Florencia, Margen Izquierdo and La Güira); in Sancti Spíritus (Punta de Diamante); and in Artemisa (Lombillo, Mongolos).
They added that, in general, the OSDE brigades placed 21,690 hydrometers in the country and worked on cleaning up catchment areas in rivers and executing dams to increase the quality and quantity of water in Granma in order to recover the Cieneguilla source,
Likewise, in Santiago de Cuba (Dos Caminos) they worked on the Guaninicun River in the construction of a dam to raise the stay and increase the volume of the liquid, as well as in the use of the Maroto dam, of the Ministry of Agriculture, to inject more water to the depressed river.
They indicated that they carried out adjustments in the operation of the supply systems in reduction of the exploitation flow through the regulation of valves, readjustment of the pumping schedules, and lengthening of the distribution cycles.
They also installed hand pumps (25 in Havana) and the construction and reactivation of easily accessible points, as well as the repair and installation of pumping equipment in Pinar del Río, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spíritus, Las Tunas, and Guantánamo, which benefited 62,139 people.
The works of this type included networks, conductors, incorporation of wells, pumping and rehabilitation of networks, pointed out and specified that they took care of the maintenance in replacement of sections of supply lines to networks and new stretches, suppression of leaks, as well as valves and suction cups.
