Mayabeque, Cuba: A recent report of Facebook has revealed a dark network of manipulation and influence on public opinion in countries such as Bolivia, Venezuela and Mexico, through false accounts and pages, both on Facebook and Instagram. The network was organized and directed from Washington by the American company CLS Strategies.
About this event, its connection with the imperial strategy for the region, the use of social networks for operations of this type and other topics of interest, was discussed this Thursday in a new broadcast of the radio and television round table program.
The Doctor of Science, Carlos del Porto Blando, said that it is not an isolated element, digital social networks are a tool that has come like a glove to the great centers of power, to segment the population, influence it in a very direct way, accumulate information and create profiles that are sometimes scary.
All the companies based on Facebook have always had a very close relationship with the centers of power, they have used the media, while digital networks are followed more than the existing newspapers, than the radio and television networks, Porto Blanco said.
The journalist and professor at the Faculty of Communication, Dr. Ana Teresa Vadía Valdés, assured that social networks today come to revolutionize everything we know as communication, the old mechanisms are not enough, there are citizens who create content and that implies an important change in the communication process, which is used by Strategic Communication Companies.
The function of informing is no longer exclusive to journalists, nor to the media and that is what is being used today, to weigh work on social networks.
The Spanish journalist and professor of Communication Theory, Ignacio Ramonet, argued in the Round Table: “perhaps for the first time the Facebook Company itself has denounced a large-scale manipulation, when it began to work in favor of the opposition in Bolivia, Mexico and Venezuela”.
These three countries have been the main victims of media and political manipulation in favor of United States agencies, he said.
