Beijing: China today celebrates 71 years of its proclamation as the People’s Republic determined to materialize its socioeconomic revitalization plans in 2020, overcome internal and external challenges, and advance towards territorial integration, Prensa Latina publishes.
As part of the official commemoration program, this morning at sunrise the flag was raised in Tian’anmen Square, and also in other parts of the country.
This new anniversary of the creation of the People’s Republic of China comes in a context marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, which poses challenges to the national economy and pushes towards an unprecedented global crisis.
The country is also experiencing the worst moment of tensions with the United States, and the offensive implied the imposition of sanctions on companies and officials, trade barriers and friction on sensitive issues such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tibet, Xinjiang and the South Sea.
That is why the Asian giant rebalances its system to give more weight in development to internal consumption, services and technological innovation.
At the same time, it is committed to consolidating alliances with friendly states and regions, and expanding foreign participation with guarantees of a favorable environment, operations in fair and equitable conditions, and protection of intellectual property.
After reiterating those resolutions and summarizing the progress of recent times, Prime Minister Li Keqiang affirmed at the traditional banquet for the date that although 2020 is an unusual year in China’s history, the government has continued to pursue its goal to raise the living conditions of the people and eradicate poverty.
However, he called for more efforts to keep Covid-19 under control, help businesses resolve difficulties, create jobs, improve education and pension systems, and medical and childcare services.
He also reiterated plans for greater cooperation and exchanges with the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao, emphasizing that in the case of Taiwan no separatist attempt will be tolerated.
“China will follow the path of peaceful development and is determined to safeguard its security, sovereignty and development interests”, he told an audience led by President Xi Jinping.
Among other issues, he highlighted Beijing’s willingness to work with the international community to improve the global governance system, defeat the Covid-19 pandemic, and boost economic recovery.
On that date in 1949 the people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, declared victory in the War of Liberation.
Starting today, the so-called Golden Week also begins, an initiative of the Government to extend the holidays for the anniversary, expand internal tourism and allow more time for the population to visit distant relatives.
