Cuba: Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla announced on Twitter today that he spoke by phone with his Somali counterpart, Ahmed Isse Awad, about the two Cuban doctors kidnapped in Kenya in 2019 while they were carrying out internationalist collaboration, Cubasí reports.

According to Rodríguez Parrilla, he thanked his Somali counterpart for the support and efforts of his government to guarantee the safe return of Cuban collaborators Assel Herrera Correa and Landy Rodríguez Hernández, abducted by alleged members of the radical Islamic group Al Shabab when they were going to the Mandera hospital, near the border with Somalia.

The Cuban Foreign Minister added that during the conversation with Isse Awad they expressed their will to strengthen bilateral ties between the two governments.

The highest Cuban authorities have maintained communication channels with the governments of Nairobi and Mogadishu, in order to achieve the safe return of the two doctors to Cuba.
