Havana, Cuba: The North American Company Western Union will stop delivering remittances to Cuba today because of the unilateral measures announced since October by the United States Government to prevent such activity on the island, Prensa Latina publishes.
The Cuban financial company Fincimex agreed together with Western Union to suspend the payment of remittances and the operation of the 407 points of its network in the Caribbean country from Monday, according to a press release issued in mid-November by the first.
This decision was announced after the United States Treasury Department released the draft of a final rule last October to eliminate, 30 days after October 27, the scope of certain general authorizations related to bank transfers from abroad.
This provision prohibits sending money to Cuba through Fincimex and the related firm American International Services, alleging that these are companies controlled by the Cuban military.
Fincimex details that it carried out negotiations with Western Union to establish, by mutual agreement and sufficiently in advance, the procedures for the orderly suspension of remittances from North American territory to the largest of the Antilles.
“The interruption of the remittance service between the two countries is the sole and exclusive responsibility of the United States government”, the document emphasizes.
Likewise, it ratifies the will and commitment of the financier to the Cuban family to identify and sustain orderly and safe remittance flows.
