Cuba: The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, regretted the death of the island’s Minister of the Interior, Vice Admiral Julio César Gandarilla, due to a prolonged illness, Prensa Latina reported.
From his official profile on Twitter, the president highlighted Gandarilla as a ‘revolutionary example’, and conveyed his condolences to family, friends and co-workers.
Vice Admiral Gandarilla died in the early hours of this day; his body will be cremated and his wish not to carry out a military ceremony or public activity will be fulfilled.
He held important responsibilities in the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior.
He was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and a deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament).
He fulfilled an internationalist mission in countries such as Angola, worked linked to personal security and is the founder of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution.
