Havana: Cuban health authorities today insist on family responsibility to prevent the spread of Covid-19, at a time of increasing positive cases, mainly due to the arrival of travelers from abroad, Prensa Latina publishes.
Violation of the protocols established for these people and their families, mainly regarding isolation, is among the main causes of the increase in those infected with the disease.
This was revealed in the most recent meeting of the temporary working group for the control and prevention of the new coronavirus, headed by the president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, where it was specified that between 60 and 70 percent of those confirmed in the last fortnights are direct cases or linked to arrivals from abroad.
They also pointed out that there is a tendency to detect carriers of SARS-CoV-2, the cause of the disease, in the second PCR, which is carried out five days after entering the country.
Faced with this scenario, the president emphasized the importance of measures within homes, and said that if the island does not have a worse situation and more deaths, it is because Cuban care protocols are robust; but the more cases there are, the greater are the risks.
The director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, Francisco Durán, during a television intervention the day before called attention to the increase in positives among children, something that also requires family care.
Cuba adopts provisions to continue putting barriers to the pandemic, such as the obligation, as of January 10, that travelers from abroad present a negative real-time PCR test, carried out a maximum 72 hours before by certified laboratories of the countries of origin.
Added to this, there are regulations in airport terminals to reduce the influx of public to those spaces.
These measures must have a support in the public conscience, Durán pointed out, otherwise exposure to the dangerous increase and infections will continue.
This Friday the Caribbean nation registered 183 new cases, to reach 10,900 accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic and 1,250 active.
